Çeşm-i Bülbül (Eye of the Nightingale) is a glass processing art that got created when at the end of the 18th century, Selim the 3rd sent dervish Mehmet Dede to Venice to learn their glass processing techniques.

Mehmet Dede learned opal glass processing techniques and opened his workshop at Beykoz after he returned from Venedik. By improving this technique brought to Ottoman Empire by Mehmet Dede, Çeşm-i Bülbül was created. Fethi Ahmet Paşa popularized this valued products production.

These products are called Çeşm-i Bülbül ‘’Eye of the Nightingale’’ because the patterns on these glasses resemble eyes of the nightingales and they’re being continued to be produced by the traditional methods. Çeşm-i Bülbül requires long time processes and creativity. It’s main feature is being made by using thin and colored glass sticks being melted and placed inside liquid glass. These twisting lines represent skillfulness and style of the artist who is creating the art work.
